If people who are underqualified in the subject of national history began to argue on this topic, then I have nothing to be ashamed of. Asharshylyk (same meaning as Holodomor), like all the misfortunes of the Kazakh people in the 20th century, happened because we found ourselves in the epicenter of a cruel experiment called "Bolshevism" - the rule of far-left authoritarian fanatics, who thought an abstract idea is more important than the life and freedom of an individual. But that wasn’t the only reason why Kazakh people suffered. It was also our cruel payment for the ancestors, who decided that there is no need for modernization, that it is possible to live peacefully as semi-nomads next to an industrialized neighbor with machine guns.
1916, Amangeldy (a national hero) is leading his sarbaz (warriors) to a battle, soyyils (a type of bludgeon) in their hands. At the same time, in the Battle of the Somme, the British first used tanks. The Japanese, after 250 years of isolation, were horrified to discover how far behind they were from Western powers. Their national pride led to a total modernization of Japan, they even attempted to abandon their own language. We, after 250 years of colonial dependence, have not learned anything. The Poles came out with hatred for their socialist past, whereas we were nostalgic about it, pitying that it had ended. As a result, the Poles have carried out reforms and changed their country, but we have not yet. The flow of history does not spare the weak and divided. So, to avoid repeating "Asharshylyk", we need to cut the whining and abandon the traditions and foundations that hold us back. Adopt knowledge, science, technology, values. Become “professionals.” Respect the people of intellect-intensive labor. Do not listen to populists and “sweet-talkers”. Do not listen to those who offer "easy solutions" and "quick victories". Don't listen to emotions. Study your history. Remember history. Accept that the people deserve their rulers. Our cynical neighbors have not become developed and generous during this time. “Si vis pacem, para bellum.”
