We continue to share the first results of the analysis performed using the cluster observatory of Kazakhstan, developed on the basis of our Center.
Today we will answer two questions:
1. In which regions are the signs of clusters already observed?
2. How developed are the clusters in these regions?
Main conclusions:
1. Focus on cities. 80% of the regions where there are already signs of industry clusters are cities. At the same time, half of the "strong clusters" are in only 6 cities: Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Aktau, Karaganda, Pavlodar and Ust-Kamenogorsk. A similar picture is observed when analyzing potential clusters (groups of industries that have practically reached a sufficient size): 85% are located in cities. The list of "leaders" in this category is practically the same: instead of Mr. Aktau and Pavlodar - years. Shymkent and Aktobe.
2. Dependence of clusters on one or more industries. Almost all cities are characterized by a high concentration of employment in one or more industries. an exception is the city of Almaty: 3 out of 7 clusters of the city are moderately or low-concentrated. On the contrary, in years. In Karaganda, Pavlodar and Ust-Kamenogorsk, relatively developed clusters are concentrated around one industry (often due to the presence of one or several large enterprises).
