The summit is organized annually by The Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils (GFCC), CRC being its active member (https://www.thegfcc.org/crc). In 2019, CRC was the organizer of GIS in Nur-Sultan.
This year GIS has covered the theme "Future Competitiveness" through 5 prisms - sustainability, innovation, inclusiveness, resilience and partnerships. The panel discussion with Aigerim and four first-class speakers focused on the most relevant topic in times of the pandemic - Resilience. The experience of Kazakhstan, as a developing country in Central Asia, aroused particular interest from the international expert community.
A few key points of the discussion:
1. Collective Resilience
Informal institutions are a strong collective tool for resilience to external shocks such as a pandemic. In the case of Kazakhstan, strong family ties (in the broadest sense) made it possible to collectively keep the standard of living of the population "afloat". There is also a negative side - non-compliance with the rules of the lockdown, in contrast to developed countries with well-established formal institutions.
2.Individual Resilience
Digitalization and remote work opportunities have allowed some Kazakhstanis to gain both skills in working with international companies and keep gaining same income even under lockdown conditions.
3.Global Resilience
With the reduction of the distances of global supply chains for Kazakhstan, regional transport and logistics agreements and the creation of strong regional chains become even more relevant.
