Value orientations of society often remain outside the discussion about the methods of country development. Nevertheless, today it is they who largely determine the future course of events: what will be the population’s income level, how educated it will be, and even how long its citizens will live. No wonder management guru Peter Drucker said that "culture is eating a breakfast strategy."

In this regard, on December 4, the team of the Center for Research and Consulting with the support of IMEP / Institute of World Economy and Politics under the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy held a round table "Kazakhstani Values - 2050" in Almaty.

As part of the round table, the participants were able to discuss the need for value transformation in Kazakhstan and the conditions for its implementation. A special place in the discussion was given to the issue of educating the "entrepreneurial spirit" among the population.

Based on the results of the two-hour discussion, expert opinions can be summarized as follows.
1) To achieve long-term goals, Kazakhstan needs value transformation rather than not. Despite the fact that there are no “positive” or “negative” values, certain features of modern Kazakhstanis can become an obstacle to development. What Ronald Inglehart called the "society of survival" should move toward the "society of self-expression."
2) The active participation of the state in the conduct of value transformation has twofold consequences. On the one hand, such channels of transmitting values as a school can become an effective tool for educating Kazakhstanis of the “new formation”: creative, critical, tolerant, risk-open. On the other hand, in order to carry out an “organic” value transformation, it is necessary to establish a civil society, for development from bottom to top, and not from top to bottom.
3) The development of entrepreneurship, as one of the driving forces for the growth of the welfare of society, should be coupled with the upbringing of the relevant values: openness, initiative, the ability to trust others. All these values begin already with parenting, and continue at school.

We express our gratitude to the experts of the round table for your active participation: Gulmira Ileuova, Sergey Domnin, Karlygash Ezhenova, Marat Bakkulov, Eldar Abdrazakov, Leonid Gurevich, Togzhan Kozhalieva, Kanat Nurov, Aigul Tasbolat, Zhanar Temirbekova, Aidet Alidujanov, Aideut Alidazhanov Alidezhu Alovjanov, Aidet Alujanovov .
Thanks for the fruitful discussion!
